Finding Strength
Why is it that when we seem to have nothing left (energy - hope - peace), we have it in ourselves to muster up comfort for those we love?
When we have no words of wisdom for ourselves, we can string together sentences of love and comfort to bring someone else joy.
There is something special about the love that we hold for others, it provides us more strength than what we thought possible, to be more hopeful than we ever realized we could be.
This is the strength that we need to conjure for ourselves in moments of despair.
To think of oneself as a loved one in need is a difficult, but important, task.
For when we feel helpless and unworthy, it is near impossible to conjure words of comfort.
But if we take a step back, imagining that we are comforting a friend in need, it becomes easier to provide encouragement.
We can harness the strength that comes from deep within, the strength that we reserve for those we love the most.
We can tell ourselves that it is okay to be not okay.
We can remind ourselves that we are so incredibly loved.
We can list the attributes that make us unique and important.
We can identify the ways that our being here brings joy to those around us.
We can summon the strength to love ourselves.
Why is this practice important?
Because you deserve the love and strength that you provide to others.
Because you are allowed to feel important and seen for who you are.
Because you deserve compassion.
So when you are feeling unworthy of love and have no strength left, you can always imagine that you’re comforting a friend. You deserve the strength you provide to others.
It works for me. I hope it works for you too.
Sending love and strength.
As always,
from me to you.
